Farm House Pixel Art Farm House Pixel Art

Overview:

The highly popular social networking site Facebook is a mecca for internet users across all walks of life; filled with an enormous variety of web games. One such game is the Adobe Flash based farming game named “My Farm.” Players plow, plant and harvest crops in exchange for “Farm Cash” which they can use to buy adornments for their cyber land.

Challenge:

The authors of the My Farm web application were looking to expand their offerings to include a variety of farmhouses which players could purchase and use to decorate their individual farms. Initial attempts at creating a farmhouse were met with a public backlash. Many of the game’s most faithful players were dissatisfied with their initial offering and called for more “realistic” renderings of farmhouses that were in the isolinear pixel-art style of the game. PlaySocial (My Farm’s creators) turned to Razzberry Media to reinvent earlier attempts at farmhouse drawings and address the issues that players had voiced.

Solution:

Inspiration for these illustrations came from the common imagery of a white or yellow two story prairie home with a wrap around porch for sitting on a swing. We also wanted  to represent farmhouses from diverse regions and locations. The stone house represents an European aesthetic, while the mansion typifies the plantation homes of the deep south. These new verrsions recieved a warm welcome from the community.
